"When I view a piece that I really like, I feel a rush of adrenalin, not unlike what one experiences when seeing a beautiful sunset, flower arrangement, or hearing a moving musical piece."

Autumn In The Berkshires |
Most of you have witnessed the world-famous turning of the leaves in New England. Autumn is late this year! As this letter is being written (October 9), the sugar maples are barely beginning to turn. This means that instead of peaking Columbus Day weekend, as is usually the case, the gorgeous reds, oranges and yellows should last well into the latter part of October. So, if you live in the East, consider a fall weekend in the Berkshires!

Many of you most likely had your introduction to contemporary glass art by attending a Dale Chihuly show. Thousands of people make their way to our gallery each year with the expressed purpose of viewing his beautiful multi-colored organic forms. We consider Chihuly to be a pioneer in the glass field. He says about his own career, “I have spent my life as an explorer, searching for new ways to use glass and glassblowing.” We feel very fortunate to have a great twenty-year relationship with Dale. From the very first one-person show we presented at our Palm Beach gallery in 1982, we have had a tremendously positive response to his work. Perhaps you have attended one of the big one-person Chihuly exhibitions that we have presented at SOFA-Chicago for the past four years. At the moment we are preparing for our fifth show in Chicago, which will take place October 25-27. This year we are expanding the show beyond the walls of our booth to include a 19-foot boat installation (see our Staff Pick of the Month). We are also showing two Chandeliers and two Persian wall installations, along with the now familiar Seaform, Persian and Basket sets. We hope to see many of you at SOFA this year and invite you all to view the works on our website. A brochure containing images of many of these works is also available. I won’t go into the details of Chihuly's biography, which are very familiar to most glass enthusiasts and are outlined on our website. I would like to tell you how grateful I am to Dale for everything he has done to make contemporary glass art as popular as it is today. His countless museum and gallery exhibitions and his large-scale projects such as Chihuly over Venice, Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem and his current Garfield Park Conservatory installations in Chicago, have attracted the attention of art lovers all over the world. Dale says that public installations are his “favorite form of art because so many people get to see them.” Visit the Dale Chihuly section on our website to see many beautiful works currently available at the gallery.
